Something I really have enjoyed exploring throughout my leadership journey is the way in which my strengths are applicable and evident in my daily life. They have become such a part of who I am, and definitely help to explain why I do certain things, or think in different ways. I think that these strengths will be sure to follow me into my professional post-college life, as well as now.
In my professional career I see my strengths having a huge impact on how I will run my classroom and interact with my students. First, I will use my context strength to try to recall and apply all of the great ‘best practices’ that I have learned over the years-- through formal educational instruction as well as all of the placements and style of cooperating teachers that I have worked with. As the strength suggests, I will use the past as a reference for the future, in order to make the future a combination of all the things I have learned. I will be sure to utilize my communication strength constantly, as it is really the most essential element of teaching. I could know all of the ‘content’ in the world in my mind, and be the best historian (which I am not!), but it doesn’t really matter all that much if I have no way of communicating that effectively to my students. Third, with significance it will push me to try to stand out from the crowd, by creating innovative and exciting lessons while also truly connecting with my students (Capstone Argument interpersonal goal). My significance strengths will also constantly be affirming my desire to be admired as credible, professional, and successful. Fourth, I will strive to achieve great things within my school district. I will always put 120% into my teaching, and go above and beyond standards and requirements. FInally, my competitive edge will hope me to have motivation to be the best at what I do. It will provide the energy and determination for me to do the best that I can.
I really don’t anticipate it being challenging to implement and incorporate my strengths into my future career path. I have applied and practiced these signature talents a great deal, and really feel like I relate my daily life to them all the time, and they really have just affirmed and explained who I am as a leader and a person. I think they will all compliment each other well and serve me well in my future profession as a teacher.
